@RuskiVanka know your own history, November 16, 1988 Estonia declared state sovereignty inside the union. With the colapse of the army in Afghanistan the USSR couldn't roll in with tanks like it did to the Baltic states in the 60s, or to Poland in 63, Romania in 62, Hungary and Ukraine in 56. The list goes on the USSR crushed a lot of revolts.
Now with an utterly defeated army Estonia went independent. March 11 1990 Lithuania noticed no tanks had come to Estonia so it declared complete independence from the Soviet Union. 2 months later Georgia, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland declared full independence from the USSR.
1991 a failed coup attempt is made by hardliners attempting to restore the former USSR borders. The coup fails, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia and a few other states/republics begin to declare independence. Soon the USSR holds a vote, the Russian Federation decides to leave the USSR, it can't control it anymore. The remaining states and republics gain independence.
