@geroutathat funny how after ww1 they gave a lot more independence to the colonies. After ww2 all were given the right to vote for independence.

@Dannydantimpat how so? Russia can barely handle Ukraine, their GDP is smaller then Canada, and their tankes have a design flaw that puts all the ammunition in the least armored part of the tank. Russia is a clown 🤡

Glad to hear it. I hope you guys can somehow find a way to convince Putin to stop. I know it's hard with mass arrests and a police state facist dictator in control, but so many people on both sides are dying this needs to stop.

@MASC440 strange, if the US didn't want Germany to rise as an economic power then the martial plan was a pretty bad idea. By 1951 west Germany already had more industrial capacity then all of pre war Germany. They did this all with ni strings attached. The US did a similar thing for Japan.

@MetaView7 some of little islands you mentioned have research stations and aren't inhabited year round. The rest are mostly retirment communities that have had votes to remain as part of England. They're actually expensive to maintain. The UK has even tried to give the Falklands to Argentina, but the island voted heavily in favor of staying part of the UK. A lot of former colonial nations have small islands that are expensive to maintain, but they can't get rid of. American Samoa is another good example. In 1966 the US strongly pushed for their independence, but samoa voted heavily for staying. Most little Islands seme to prefer the economic support of larger nations and the financing and travel options it brings. Like medical tourism.

@MASC440 the UK and France had debt sure but the marshal plan was free. Also lend lease was essentially a 5 year no interest loan on supplies. Wasn't exactly making money. The marshal plan brought eroup and Japan closer to the west but not with puppet strings. The friendship created from the marshal plan was mostly based on gratitude and respect. Which is what I'd like with Ukraine. Help them rebuild, they hopefully appreciate, and from there Ukraine can build a friendship with of they choose to. There are lots of examples where leaving a country destroyed by war only breedes resentment and extremism. A lot of the axis powers were driven to the terrible alliance thanks to the destruction and debts of ww1. I think it's a must for stability after any major war like this.
