  1. Soviet Union had secret services ( like KGB ) operating in all states who reported back to the Kremlin. SBU , Ukrainian secret service, has been under the Kremlin’s thumb up until recently. It’s a huge reason why Russia thought it could take Kyiv. Why the Kherson bridge wasn’t destroyed before the Russian troops crossed it. Also why Russia had unchallenged successes taking over Crimea back in 2014. And why they managed to take much of the Black Sea coast from the 24th February 2022. Zelensky made the smartest move by removing a range of individuals from their positions of influence and information. His friend who was head of SBU for only a few years was probably in over his head dealing with Kremlin spies working against him . Wouldn’t surprise me if he had to be removed to avoid his assassination. We just can’t underestimate the length the Kremlin regime was willing to go to to keep Ukraine within its grasp and avoid it slipping over to the west, despite the fact that it was the wish of a huge majority of the Ukrainian people.
