Thanks to the preservation of many documents and inscription on stone, we are able to gain a pretty good understanding of what ancient Egyptian sounded like. There are still some differences of opinion regarding the exact pronunciation of certain sounds, but it is clear that ancient Egyptian was very different from modern Egyptian Arabic. For example, ancient Egyptian had a much more complex system of vowels and consonants, which gave it a much richer and more nuanced sound than the language spoken today. This knowledge is important for understanding ancient Egypt and its culture, as well as the development of other languages that later evolved from Egyptian, such as Coptic.
