  1. Some have argued the Taiping Rebellion in China was deadlier than WWII, but it really depends on which deaths are attributed to the war and how accurate those estimates really are. It's a fair bet that China and the USSR suffered the lion's share of casualties from 1937 - 45, though it's also true the Soviets tended to exaggerate battle deaths to further glorify their victories.
