  1. A little known fact about American Samoa is that the natives are non-citizen nationals of the US. Unlike Puerto Ricans and most other territorial natives, American Samoans do not gain the right to sit on juries, vote, or hold public office when they relocate to the one of the states. They are banned from public employment, and despite a proportionally very high presence in the US military, they cannot become officers. In order to gain full citizenship rights, they must go through a naturalization process not unlike those who emigrate from foreign countries.
