  1. The decline of the major networks has loosened the social bonds of most Americans. I don't know if this is a good thing or bad, but I sigh whenever I have to explain who Barney Fife and the Beaver were.

  2. We only received one station (CBS) unless the TV repairman (remember them?) came by to tune our set. Then we received the nearest ABC station for about a half hour. I had to go to my grandmother's house to watch all three networks.

  3.  @xaenon  There's a treasure trove of films and shows going back to the silent era, so many that one can easily spend a lifetime searching and viewing them.

  4.  @xaenon  I think we're in violent agreement. I haven't had access to cable, satellite, or aerial service in twelve years and I don't miss it. I watch YouTube and buy DVDs based on reviews I've seen and the opinions of friends I trust.
