If a right is granted, it isn't really a right; it is a privilege that can be revoked on a whim.

@joshwhite5407 I was referring to the idea that rights are granted by the government. They are not. These are privileges disguised as rights and they can be removed, just as NJ did when they rescinded women's right to vote.

@joshwhite5407 Yes, the territorial law does express it your way. I should have directed my comment specifically to the way THG expressed it at 4:30 when he said "the bill was the first in US history that explicitly granted women the right to vote". We are getting into the topic of natural rights vs. civil rights, which has probably caused more disagreement and conflict than anything else I can think of.
