  1. The Phillips head driver is definitely superior to the flat head, but that's about all I can say in its favor. More modern drivers work much better, especially when dealing with parts that require a good deal of torque to seat and unseat. With modern precision machinery I would think the problem of aligning the tool head to the screw and avoiding over-torquing might be solvable.
