I've read all of Jim Corbett's books, and they are absorbing. He was a phenomenon, a quiet, reserved man who grew up in the bush and was as comfortable there as Tarzan. His love and respect for the poorest people of India is well illustrated in his riveting stories, as are his descriptions of the jungle and its inhabitants. Though he gives them no voice or dialogue, his animals are every bit as unique and understandable as Rudyard Kipling's Baloo and Shere Kahn, some quite likeable and others quite fearsome. I've read about the Tsavo man-eaters, but not the man-eaters of Njombe. The toll they took appears to rival or exceed that of India's worst man-eaters. It's hard to know, given the spotty record keeping of the time and the remoteness of the regions. There are historical records of the European middle ages involving wild boar and wolves that rival these stories. Perhaps they would make an suitable bookend to your tales of India and Africa.
