When the M1 helmet was phased out in favor of the coal scuttle Kevlar helmet, the comic strip artist Mort Walker paid tribute to the venerable workhorse in a humorous and poignant BEETLE BAILEY cartoon where he pointed out all the things you could do with the old steel pot, and ended by saying all you could do with its replacement was wear it.
