I was going to say the plow was man's most important invention. After spending a day behind one, you need a good night's rest, hence the bed was invented. Plus, the plow allowed more grain to be produced and people became fat, which led to sleep apnea, so a good pillow had to be invented as well.

@stevenyarnell I've read that Mr Whitney's invention is what prolonged and entrenched slavery in the Old South.

@HikuroMishiro As I understand it, slavery was proving to be economically unviable and slowly dying out until the advent of the cotton gin. Without the gin I don't see how increasing the size of the slave population would have compensated for not having the gin. It would only have made an economically bad situation worse.
