The IS-2 always looked much bigger than it really was, a heavily armored tank with a really big gun, yet it was inferior in many ways to the Tiger II. The IS3 appeared even more massive, but it topped out at 51 tons. Looks can be deceiving.

The Americans didn't need stopgap weapons. They could build real tanks faster than the Germans could build Stugs.

I've always read that we contributed about 10% of the Soviet production totals, but I agree even that number is meaningless if one does not consider their needs, timing, quality, and the ultimate application of those supplies. We did something similar during the Soviet famine of 1921-23 when we supplied much needed food and grain to save their starving masses. Herbert Hoover was the architect of this miracle, but he is largely remembered today as the man "responsible" for the Great Depression. Meanwhile, Lenin, Stalin, and their propaganda machine worked tirelessly to defame and erase any memory of America's unselfish contribution. They were quite successful at it. Who in the USA remembers ever being told this story?
