  1. Everyone remembers Patton, but Hodges, Simpson, Brereton, and Patch are the forgotten American Army commanders of the Western European Campaign. We also remember Montgomery and Bradley, but Devers is the forgotten Army Group commander of this campaign. Part of the reason is public relations and part of it is location. I think Devers lacked both.
