@billtate1684 I was making a joke. But on a serious note I will add that oil, like money; is fungible. However, if they Interfere with the supply of it enough, the effect will be felt among all oil dependent economies. Iran has the potential to do just this, which is why the US kept Iran at bay for decades. If Iran sees political and economic advantage to piracy or extortion then it could adversely affect trade and lead to potential conflict with any number of nations or alliances. However, Iran has an Achilles's heel. For example, it lacks enough crude refining capability to be truly self-sufficient and it is dependent on export sales of crude and gas to develop operating capital for importing critical technology to operate its facilities. This means there are other ways to bring them to bay, short of war. Though it may take longer to produce the desired effect, it does not require the adversely affected nations to expend blood and national treasure.
