  1. I used to sell hurricane lanterns, wicks, incandescent lanterns and their replacement filaments in my Great Uncle's hardware store as late as the 1970s. Most of our sales were to local county residents who still lacked electricity and plumbing in rural north Florida. I used the Coleman gas fired lanterns, but only on Boy Scout camping trips.
