The problem is it's very easy to say, "you need to be able to know how to use a gun before you can buy one," but when you put this into practice and put up a bureaucracy to determine who can and can't have a gun, it perverts incentives. You know Uncle Sam is corrupt and incompetent. You don't think the party in power can use that department to make sure its opponents aren't as armed? How do we know the feds won't fuck this up like they fuck everything else up?
