  1. I think the universe has to not be eternal. Otherwise, we'd never reach the current point. You can't move forward in time if you never had a beginning. If you were driving to Denver, and the sign said ♾️miles to Denver, you'd never get any closer to Denver, no matter how far you drove. Now, if you flip around, the same holds true. It's still ♾️miles to Denver, and no matter how much you drive, it's not getting any bigger. There's no progress in time without a beginning.

  2. If the universe is eternal, how could we ever move forward in time? You have to have a beginning to make any progress through time. It's like if you were on a highway and the sign said "∞ miles to Denver," you'd never move forward. You wouldn't be making any progress towards Denver. On the flip side, turning around, you wouldn't make any progress moving away from Denver. In order for the universe to be eternal, you'd have to dramatically change how time works.

  3. But that set of already-laid out numbers isn't the same as time. I guess the only way time could ever be eternal is if it is cyclical.
