Another crucial component is telling the TRUTH and dealing with factual REALITY. No more "the government has declared open season on black men," no more "our young black men are being mowed down and murdered in broad daylight," etc. No more hyperbolic rhetoric. It accomplishes nothing towards diagnosing problems and finding solutions. Talk like that just makes people feel that total abolition of the cops is the only solution... Until they look at the stats and see that FIFTEEN unarmed black men were shot and killed by cops in 2019 (it was 9 last week, but they raised it significantly this week, idk why) and they might just leave your movement because they joined due to rhetoric making it seem like it was thousands. If we reframed the conversation to be about the 55-65 unarmed civilians shot last year instead of the 1000 total, most of whom were armed with guns or knives, maybe it would be easier to find solutions. I just can't stand hyperbolic rhetoric in general. This whole movement has been co-opted by leftists who don't want solutions. They want to just burn it all down, and it's disheartening to see people join in.

I just hate how the interactions he's describing with the police just sound like a hostage scenario. Like he'd instruct someone locked in a bank with a robber to do the same things.

Well, break down the stats more. There isn't a change in death-by-cop stats. There is, however, a decrease in UNARMED death-by-cop stats. That's a testament to improvement, correct?

@oaketh OP is making sense, but I KINDA get what Kevin is saying. People always bitch about America and compare it (poorly) to Europe as if Europe is some utopia where all healthcare, housing, and college is free, cancer is cured, dogs live to be thirty, there's no homework, and they get to eat ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and it all gets annoying after a while. That being said, that doesn't mean ALL comparisons are pointless, and like I said, OP does make a good point. Better education and training improves outcomes. The cops I know all went to Uni for Criminal Justice and know the ins and outs of the Justice System, the differences in beliefs and practices of the many races and ethnicities in this melting pot, the effects of poverty on vulnerable individuals, (etc.) They've all had stellar records on the force! My hypothesis is we streamline Blue Boys to get more people out on the front lines of the drug war, because civil liberties aren't going to violate themselves, you know!

@84kjk No, Japan has an incredibly low homicide rate, as do many other East Asian and West Asian nations. Poverty has MUCH more to do with violence than race. Also, you really sound like you don't know what "inner city urban culture" is. It sounds like you're just painting what you believe to be "black culture" as "trash and toxic." If that wasn't your intention, don't set up "inner city urban culture" as a foil to "the whitest countries." That's gross. And it's not really glorified in music and media, the OVERCOMING of those conditions of poverty and violence is glorified, since being faced with conflict and conquering your demons and those that wish to defeat you is a perennial component to human literature and our condition in general. Reginald Harrison 1. I don't think you're real; you sound like a sock-puppet account to see disinformation. 2. Doctors kill more people than cops do by orders of magnitude. Cops killed 1,000 people last year, only about 50-65 of which were unarmed. Doctors killed at least 250,000 people, although some estimates put it at 440,000 people with a more liberal definition of "medical malpractice." Does that mean cop killings don't matter? No! They do, and there's still plenty of work to go. But comparing cop killings to doctor killings isn't favourable to your argument (it's actually a VERY bad move! 😝) and will just distract people from your cause. Best to let policymakers and reformers specialise on each problem in their own ways!
