However, in its favour, it is not poisonous or corrosive. Unlike NG, condensing it into a liquid is really hard work. At atmospheric pressure, its boiling point is -259.5 degrees C or about 24 degrees above absolute zero. That's cold.

When my regiment staged its own little winter exercise, in Germany and we encountered 16 degrees C of frost, not merely did all our vehicles fail to start, but our feet froze too, to the extent that the MO said that if the CO did not call off the exercise he would resign his commision.

All the vehicles froze up and we had to light little bofires under each of them to get them to turn over, never mind start. I made sarcastic remarks about us "defending Democracy" against the Russians, which did not go down well. Shortly after, the exercise was cancelled, because our MO threatened to resign if it were not, because he "could not guaranteed the health of the unit" under these conditions! That was the Cold War, that was. Ludicrous and all entirely pointless.
