The problem with western commentators is that they did not listen to what Putin said at the start of the SMO. To a western mind, the important thing in a war is how much territory is won. This war was/is not about territory, well, not primarily anyway, it is about political alignments. As Putin put it at the start of the SMO it is about "Demilitarizing, de-NA*Ifying and neutralizing Ukraine." Nothing about "conquering territory".
As the Russians regard Ukrainians as "Russians" they have tried, as far as winning the war will allow, to avoid civilian casualties, concentrating on hitting military targets with very precise missiles and guided bombs. The SMO, has killed fewer civilians in two-&-a-bit years, than Israel killed in two weeks in Gaza,
These factors explain why the Russians have been "so slow"! It's not that they are so weak, it is that they went slowly deliberately.
