Yes, looking back to 1945, we had a psuedo-socialist (Labour) government, which introduced half-hearted (Deeply flawed) Nationalization measures, which were slowly unpicked by successive Conservative governments and it has really been a gradual but consistent, decline since. Britain gave a sort of Last Gasp when it defeated Argentina and the coup de grasse was given by Tony Blair. Britain, since then has, so to speak, twitched a bit and that's about all it has done. It seems to be what happens when you are "allied" with the USA.

  2. 5:21 The lack of plausible replacements is really extraordinary! How to explain it? We British have had dud PMs before but never such a dearth of believable stand-ins. It looks almost as though, someone or something was weeding out any capable candidate.
