I drove an A35 for many years, I endorse everything you said about this. They were very similar cars, they looked very similar but irritatingly, they were just slightly different, so a bit of the bodywork of an A30 could not be used to substitute damaged parts on the A35. I swapped the engine (I think it was about 1litre) for that out of a Triumph. Iirc it was a1240cc engine, and I also swapped the brakes with disc brakes from the Triumph too, as I got so fed up with replacing the brake pads in the front drum brakes. There was no problem doing the swap, as they were identical parts in both cars. It would go 60mph, but not for long as the valves would burn out at that speed pretty quickly. On the whole, treated correctly, a reliable and convenient car and very easy and economical to drive.
