The problem the NATO forces (Which is what the Ukrainian forces really are) have, is they are being trained in a style of warfare appropriate to Iraq or Serbia. This war differs from any previous war in that both sides can see the other side's every move, there are hundreds, or maybe thousands of drones in the air at any time, watching the enemy. There are satellites, on both sides, watching the battle space and relaying information back to their controllers constantly. There is no such thing as a "Surprise Attack"! The Ukrainians have not found a way to overcome the minefields, in front of the Russians defensive lines. When (if) they do and they get to the first Russian defense line, the real, hard, fighting will start.
