(Not that I am saying that he is incompetent, merely that he has never really been tested) In Newsweek 31 March 2022 he is quoted as saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin had "already lost" the war in Ukraine due to "catastrophic misjudgments." I think one might categorize that as a "catastrophic misjudgments."

I don't know what vehicles the Ukrainians have to transport goods into Bachmut, but when I was a soldier in Germany about 10 years after WW2 finished, the Belgian army had captured German vehicles called "half-tracks", which were a (at a guess) six-ton lorry which had tracks in place of the rear wheels and normal wheels for steering at the front, I should think these might well be more useful in muddy conditions than wheeled lorries.

  14. If Taiwan were independent and the Chinese did not attack the US forces that would have to be there to prevent a Chinese invasion. The Chinese would not trade with Taiwan and the US would then have the job of keeping Taiwan supplied with everything it needed as well as keeping a very large force in place to deter the Chinese. It does not sound like a feasible plan to me.

  24. During my (UK) National Service, I served in an infantry regiment which had just returned from Korea. The Sgt who oversaw my basic training had the utmost respect for the Chinese as infantry soldiers and profound contempt (Which he expressed freely.) for the US military that he had fought alongside. Bear in mind that, at that time, the US was probably at the peak of its military might and the Chinese were amongst the poorest people in Asia.

Which in your opinion would have been the better choice? The fact of the matter is, that NATO (Aka the US) wanted the Russians to invade Ukraine, to justify the sanctions they were going to impose on Russia, with a view to bringing about the collapse of the Russian economy. How many Civilians have, in fact been killed, by the Russians' SMO?

That the Iranians have been able to develop things more quickly than expected, is, I think based on a lack of understanding how science works. Science is not like magic. If the solution to a problem exists and particularly, if the group working on a problem knows that the solution exists, they can usually work it out, using the same rules and clues that the previous group used. If you have a group of competent scientists and engineers working closely together they can solve all sorts of problems, particularly if they know that other groups of scientists have already solved the same problem. That Iran and North Korea have worked together is also quite probable. Why wouldn't they?
