Admiral Sir Antony David Radakin, KCB, ADC (born 10 November 1965) i seems to me to be a prize example of the fact that the British officer cadre id drawn exclusively from the rich and that who your ancestors were is more important to your career than your competence. (Not that I am saying that he is incompetent, merely that he has never really been tested) In Newsweek 31 March 2022 he is quoted as saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin had "already lost" the war in Ukraine due to "catastrophic misjudgments." I think one might categorize that as a "catastrophic misjudgments."

  2. I have tried to teach two professional soldiers who needed a qualification to keep their status as corporals. (I forget what the qualification was called it was approx one year junior to "O" level.) I found that after twenty years of doing what they were told to do, they had completely lost the ability to think. E.g. they could not grasp the meaning of vulgar fractions. One of them asked what 3 X 1/3 equaled, replied, triumphantly "Three quarters!"
