@brotpros2306 in the USSR they gave apartments within 20 minutes of work. those apartments were distributed by the organizations on which the workers worked. if you changed jobs, you could change apartments. "brilliant" Soviet designers did not plan that people would drive for an hour to work. there was a store in every district, so there was no need to go somewhere far for groceries (the prices were fixed, so there was no need to go for something cheap to the other end of the city either)
