  1. Its all about identity not genetics or religion when it comes to the Romans. The Turks never identified as Romans. They always identified as their various Turkic tribes and even as Ottoman. Sure he declared himself as "Ceasar of Rum" but he never identified as a Roman. Just like Alexander was the emperor of Persia, he never became Persian himself.

  2.  @elkoikan5993  No they identified themselves as the rulers of Rome. The continuation of the empire, but not as "Romans" themselves. Also the Orthodox church recognizing them as such isn't very credible since I'm sure they didn't have much of a choice.. it was done under duress.

  3. 568 years ago* I don't think it is that ridiculous since people often trace royal lines all the way back to Charlemagne and Alfred the Great.
