@mertcankaya279 You ever hear about the Jannisaries?

@mertcankaya279 I said that in reference to you saying that Greeks did not have to fight in ottoman wars, they did. The ottomans had a massive slave trade you know? It was pretty brutal. It was one of the first to begin, and last to stop. I'm not talking about the Jannisaries. Also you say 1300-1700 like it's a small part of ottoman history, it is mostly all of it. Before the 1300s, ottomans weren't much of a power, after 1700s, they became the "sick man of Europe."

Greece really needs to loosen its immigration restrictions. They need more people.

@ΧαραλαμποςΚωνσταντινου-ψ3θ Who told you Greeks hate Cyprus? Greeks and Cypriots are the same people, only separated because of the British and Turkey.

@mertcankaya279 "Even after several measures to ban slavery in the late 19th century, the practice continued largely unabated into the early 20th century." It wasn't really banned until 1924 like I said.. ottoman slavery wasn't racially based like European slavery was, they did not primarily use Sub-Saharan African slaves. You mention natives in the Americas, what percentage of Turkey's population are natives? It is far far lower than 1%.. and natives have less rights than the Turks do. How many people do you think the Turks killed when they first entered Anatolia? The Byzantine Empire was one of the most populous places on Earth. I'm sure the total killed throughout the centuries far surpasses 100 million.

@ΧαραλαμποςΚωνσταντινου-ψ3θ You are wrong about that. Greeks do not hate Cyprus. They hate the occupied Northern Cyprus maybe..

Demographics is particularly concerning for Greece because they have such a small population as it is. Did you know in the early 1900s, Turkey had a population which was very close to Greece's?

@mertcankaya279 The British and Germans banned slavery in 1807, and the French did it in 1794. Guess when the Ottomans banned slavery? 1924.. Even the Americans banned slavery before the Turks did. By 1950s you are probably thinking of racial segregation which is bad but not slavery, not even close. In the USA and especially Canada, natives have more rights and benefits than non-native people do. In Canada, they skip a lot of tax, they get free university education, cheaper gas, etc.

@mertcankaya279 I haven't been taught any anti-ottoman "propaganda." I just know history. I don't live anywhere near the region, and my schools didn't even mention Turkey nor the Ottomans. Dhimmi's are supposed to have just as much rights as Muslims do if they pay the Jizya but this clearly wasn't the case in the Ottoman Empire, the Jannisaries are good example again. While it is true that at a time, religious minorities were treated better in the Ottoman Empire than they were treated in Europe, this did not last. All religious minorities were heavily persecuted in Turkey, not only Christians. Many Jewish communities were targeted alongside the Armenians and Greeks in the early 1900s. The 1942 Varlık Vergisi taxed Armenians 232%, followed by Jewish people at 179%, then Greeks at 156%. Muslims were taxed 4.94%. You do seem far better educated than most Turks, I'll give you that. It is very rare for someone from Turkey to acknowledge what happened to the Armenians.
