What a load of BS. A massive portion of the population are Kurds, it makes sense to allow these people to speak their own language in their schools. There isn't massive Arabic portions of the US is there? You wonder why education is so poor in the Kurdish regions of Turkey, maybe it has to do with not being able to learn in their own language? Also to say there are Armenians and Greeks left in Turkey is just ridiculous, you know what happened to those native peoples.
3
@joejoey7272 Well, they also planned to create a Kurdish state to be fair. It was only thanks to Ataturk and his efforts to create an ethnostate that it didn't happen.
2
I don't think so, I think it was another group who did it though and Erdogan used it as an opportunity to blame the Kurds
2
You think Turkey would ever hand over land willingly? They are as greedy and imperialistic as it comes.
2
@kasadam85 I don't think I am the one speaking with bias here.. I have been keeping up with Turkey for quite some time now, and I am getting unfiltered news, whereas in Turkey the news is government-controlled.
2
You have allies. The Iranians, Greeks, and Armenians definitely sympathize with the Kurds.
2
@harmanhameed6286 I am more speaking of the Iranian people rather than the government, as the current Iranian government is arguably just as imperialistic as the Turkish government.
2
And? If Turkey wants people to use it's new name, then maybe Turkey should earn that respect and not behave like some totalitarian medieval country.
1
Claim land? Man it is already their land. It is Turkey who is trying to take land away from the native peoples (As usual)
1
No this has nothing to do with that. Turkey is just behaving the way it literally always had. Since they first arrived in the region in 1071, this is what they've been doing. They haven't changed at all
1
@joejoey7272 The primary issue is Turkey though, Iraq and Iran treat their Kurdish minorities fairly well. Kurds in Iraq have their own autonomous region. If Turkey would just do the same and give the Kurds some autonomy many issues would be solved.
1
You don't understand Turks. They are just as colonial and imperialistic as the UK in the 1700s..
1
Relocating refugees onto a land that isn't there's in an attempt to displace the native population? Yup, seems like a thing Erdogan and Turkey would do..
1
Turkey is "becoming" authoritarian? I guess you haven't heard of the 1955 Istanbul pogrom or the 1974 invasion of Cyprus
1
Great, your country should stop supporting Turks especially considering what they did in the early 1900s, even to Jewish people.
1
@lao-shang2326 How could you be pro-government? You like what Erdogan is doing? Do you not see the issue with trying to repress and control an ethnic minority?
1
@kasadam85 You need to "try different sources." All of your news sources are government controlled. Why are there so many journalists jailed in Turkey? To call an entire ethnic minority, a "terrorist organisation" shows your strong bias and indoctrination..
1
@kasadam85 Tell me, have you heard of any of the Kurdish children who were killed in Turkish drone bombings in the past year? I have. You have not because your government controls your media..
1
@lao-shang2326 At the very least the Kurds deserve some autonomy similar to what they have in Iraq. They should be able to speak their own language in their own schools. Do you disagree with this?
1
@lao-shang2326 you disagree with people being allowed to speak their own language in their own schools? You are an ethno-fascist
1
@lao-shang2326 Can you at least explain your opinions? How can you be opposed to letting people speak their own language? Do you even know why you think this or is it just what your government-controlled media tells you?
1
@lao-shang2326 They should be able to learn in their own language. They can also learn Turkish in schools too. In Canada, you learn in English but then you also are forced to learn French in schools. Turkey could do something similar.
1
@strawwalker8177 Yes, read more of the other side and less of Turkish government-controlled news
1
You don't seem influenced by propaganda at all...
1
Wouldn't put it past them. In the past they damaged their founder's own house in order to blame it on the Greeks of Istanbul, which escalated into a massacre..
1
@maximusaugustus6823 While nations in the Balkans and the Middle East gained their independence from the Ottomans, the Kurds didn't. They remain occupied today, it is not Turkey's land.
