@Isuukuu the Janissaries were captured kids. There was a "son tax" placed on Christians throughout the empire. The Jannisaries were only a single part of the army however. During the early Ottoman empire these Jannisaries were primarily Greeks who lived in Anatolia.

@Alex Macedonian America held on to slavery much longer than western Europe did. The British ended it before the US

@zooosfromterroristan1188 The population of the Anatolian Greeks were far greater to those in the Slavic lands the Ottomans controlled prior to taking Constantinople. Either way, why are you arguing about which population the Turks took children from? It's messed up regardless.

It is history. Just because you don't like it, doesn't make it untrue.
1
@sheikowi Are you joking? While Europe banned slavery, the ottomans still had it going. It was one of the first massive slave trades and one of the last to stop. It wasn't only in slavery in which the ottomans were intolerant. Look at how they treated their own minorities. If you live in Turkey theres no point arguing about this. Your government teaches you many historical inaccuracies. It's one of the most revisionist countries

@monodimensionalbeing He is an insecure turk who thinks his people could do no wrong.. the worst part is that the slave trade isn't even the worst thing his people did.
1
They were primarily Turks.. its like saying the British empire was not British because there were Scottish, Irish, Welsh, etc..
1
@tantantan123tan bring more non-turks to leading government positions? I think you're mistaken here.. while the minorities held a lot of financial power due to usury being banned in Islam, the minorities held very little political power. You think if they had significant political power they could have prevented the genocides committed against them?

Even Anatolia prior to the Turks had diverse genetics. Many Rus came to those lands, as well as many travellers from western Europe.
1
@zooosfromterroristan1188 What part of it is BS? Ever hear of the Byzantine Empire? Varangian Guard? A famous Norweigan king gained his wealth and fortune in the Byzantine Empire, Harold Hardrada. The Gauls even settled in Anatolia. The region of Galatia was named after them.
1
It still haunts Europe to this day. The Turks use migrants as a weapon to launch at Europe.
1
The slave trade wasn't even the worst of it. Look at the countless massacres and genocides which took place in the 1900s.
1
@zooosfromterroristan1188 It did. You can disagree with the rest of the world all you want, it won't change the facts. Why does Turkey indoctrinate its people into denying the genocide starting from a really young age 🤔? You want an example of a massacre Turks don't deny (yet)? The 1955 Istanbul Massacre. https://youtu.be/G_UYhNPwldg

Ottomans never colonized? Are you joking? How did Anatolia become Turkish then? Anatolia was not the poorest region btw.. it was the heartland of the empire. Even recently Turks are colonizing. What would you call, invading a land, kicking out the natives, then settling families from mainland Turkey? Thats what happened in Cyprus 1974..
1
@Survivorinseaside It is you who only reads from one side. Greeks were not kicked from Anatolia? Then where did they all go? Prior to 1974, Greeks comprised 80% of Cyprus's population, Turks only 17%.. The island has been inhabited by Greeks for over 3,000 years, they are native, Turks are not. In the Ottoman Empire, Greeks were not happy. They had to pay extra taxes because they were not Muslim. They had to give up a son to serve as a jannisary. You are being biased. Do you know how brutal the Ottoman slave trade was? Do you really think they treated their minorities any better?
1
@Survivorinseaside Who tf cares what percentage of kids you ripped from their parents. You keep downplaying it. It was horrible, call it what it is. What do you mean by pogrom? There was a population exchange after the war, but many died before the war such as in the Pontus. Many died after such as 1955 in Istanbul. Should Greeks take 33% of Istanbul because you Turks massacred Greeks there? Come on..
