I had a Ford Escort Mk3 that failed the MOT for a broken licence plate light, and was not allowed to take the car. I just walked five minutes to the closest parts shop, bought a new bulb, walked back and installed the new bulb in front of the tester mechanic. Only then, I got the certificate to prove the car had passed. They are quite rigorous here in Ireland.
