The problem is based on the truth that NATO agreed NOT to advance eastwards towards Russia, and has broken that agreement five times, added to that the war against Jugoslavia, Libya, Syria (because they said NO to a pipeline across their land from Saudi to Europe and Germany) , Iraq ( false claim of WMD's) indicating that NATO IS a real perceived threat to Russia's safety and security. By encouraging Ukraine to join they add to the threat to Russia from Putin's point of view, which is valid, and should be addressed, and by so doing risking an all out clash between NATO and Russia in future by accident or design, which is an increase in danger to the whole of Europe and even the world. Ukraine should never be admitted to NATO, but remain neutral as a safety or buffer zone. The constant push eastwards is another act of madness by all concerned, how else do they expect Russia to react, the west is a threat from their point of view. I also believe he is capturing the nuclear power complexes in Ukraine to stop anyone having a potential source of weapon grade nuclear material either as a dirty bomb or future missile assault technology. the very fact that Zelensky spoke of joining the nuclear club must have been a trigger to the invasion. All of that is a threat to Russia from their point of view.
