  1. Examination of the aircraft skin would show if an internal damage occurred with the metal pushed outwards, if an external dame age occured the holes would have metal pushed inwards logically. So examining the photos could give added information. As you stated a Russian missile would have destroyed the aircraft with a direct hit or a proximity explosion.
