There is also no evidence that TE Lawrence was either, he asked a woman to marry him, and she laughed, which hurt him, i have known tough men scarred by that and never asked anyone again. Paddy was devoted to his family and sisters, and their welfare, a typical Irish man's loyalty to family, seen as a duty in those days.

The Horsa glider floated better than the US Waco and many lives were saved by that fact. Sadly a huge number of glider troops did drown as did Glider Pilot Regiment troops too, it is detailed in a number of books on the history of the GP Regiment from conception right through ww2. One of the pioneers was Major Rock who on the day almost made a good landing having reached Sicily by great flying, sadly he crashed at the last moment and was killed, and the GPR lost a superb leader and pioneer. It is heartbreaking to read some of those books, especially as I learned to fly on gliders with the ATC and powered aircraft later, and i can imagine the skill and courage it took to fly those enormous heavily loaded "birds" compared to the small ones i flew. Then they had to fight on the ground as infantry. Paddy was totally correct if this actually happened and he made this speech.
