Over 95% of my own kit now is self acquired, many armies do the same. Soldiers always buy some kit items to make lives more comfortable. Any fool can be uncomfortable. Ironically I have some Russian webbing items i use inside my British kit, and it is excellent quality. Any study of some of the British videos on YT will show the variety of privately acquired items used by British troops. I know for sure Russian troops do too. Same with most NATO forces. It's not losing, every nation has supply problems,
