  1. NATO was formed for three reasons 1) To keep the USA in Europe 2) To contain Germany 3)To oppose the USSR, as a defence organisation not to attack Jugoslavia (neutral, non-aligned, non-warsaw pact) , Syria (neutral), Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan etc

  5.  @wanderschlosser1857  In many ways i agree with what you have written. But NATO nations all follow the US line no matter what badge they put on their sleeves for operations outside the NATO region, so the difference is a very blurred line.
