Other than "Controlled Opposition", the only way I can explain Thomas' point of view is by considering that he may be afflicted with Battered Person Syndrome with a bit of Stockholm Syndrome thrown in for good measure. Like a battered wife with nowhere to go, Thomas is trapped in an abusive relationship and cannot escape. He has a delusional belief that he can change the behavior of his abusive and criminally dangerous spouse and keep the family together. There is really only one course of action – Get Out! Thomas must believe - I have to stay (Vote for Clinton) because I have no alternatives. The alternatives may be a little scary for you but they do exist. Get Out!
