  1. Is Hartmann correct; is the Democratic Party rapidly becoming more “progressive”? I put it to you the Democratic Party hasn’t changed except for the few new entries (Tulsi Gabbard, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, & Ro Khanna) and these new voices are swamped by the incumbent Corporate Democrats that dominate the Congress, but it’s a start. What Hartmann is clearly showing in his sales pitch for Pelosi is the words “Progressive” and “Liberal” no longer have any meaning. The actual meaning of Liberal is much closer to the meaning of Neoliberal that most Democrats would like to admit. And as for “Progressive”, just take a look at the PAYGO vote in the Congressional “Progressive” Caucus where the three actual “progressives” (Gabbard, Ocasio-Cortez, and Khanna) voted it down and the rest of the caucus swamped their vote and passed PAYGO. So what is PAYGO; it’s legislation that says any future progressive policies must be neutrally funded. Unlike the Imperial Wars or Bank Bailouts or Tax Cuts for the Elite which are funded by deficit spending, any new “progressive” policies to be implemented must take funding from other existing progressive policies. Sort of reminds you of Trump’s two for one regulatory scam, doesn’t it? So when Pelosi recently unveiled PAYGO, she said it would help fight the deficit. Well if any funding for future progressive policies has been legislated to be deficit neutral, Hello! Most thinking Progressives (for lack of a better word) are questioning why Democrats are backing a PAYGO Rule that will make “Progressive” legislation harder to pass. But this question doesn’t appear to be on Hartmann’s agenda. So who is in this Congressional “Progressive” Caucus? Let’s look closely at the membership. We have Hartmann’s cohort Mark Pocan as one of the Chairpersons and we have the frequent guest on Hartmann’s show Corporate Democrat Keith Ellison as Vice Chair. So with respect to the Congressional “Progressive” Caucus, what does the word “Progressive” actually mean? As I see it, there are three real “Progressives” in this Corporate Democrat Congressional Progressive Caucus and 93 potential Corporate Democrats; and the question now to be asked is how much more will the oligarchs allow their institutions be diluted by actual progressives. I hope this progressive trend continues and if it does, it will be interesting to watch how the oligarch minions you see on Hartmann’s show attempt to kneecap their rise.
