  1. Thomas, you still appear to be confused by causality. “How Corporate Media Led To Authoritarianism” is the wrong statement. Consolidation of the Media has been an intentional ongoing process for decades by the plutocrats to gain power, influence and wealth; and to keep it. The selling out by “Progressive” and “Conservative” plutocratic governments around the planet in all facets of Neoliberal policy has resulted in the World we see today. What led to authoritarianism is capitalism; the strategies used along the way by the plutocrats (corporate personhood, media ownership, lobbying, etc., etc.) are just the tools they used to achieve their goal after the Powell Memorandum and the bipartisan scam of the 1980s and 90s. Saying “Corporate Media Led to Authoritarianism” is like saying the corrupt Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton led to Trump. Yes, presenting the American people with such a corrupt individual and giving them no other option may have contributed to Trump, but you have to also consider the previous decades of “Third Way” bipartisan corruption that created the corrupt and devastating economic environment that eventually led to Trump. Maybe it’s time you asked Chris Hedges or even the flexible Thomas Frank back on your show for a more balanced view.
