Never forget who owns "The Economist": A plethora of plutocrats from the Agnelli family to the Rothschilds.

I always consider events involving "terrorists" in the Middle East as having the potential as being staged. Even in the US, it has been shown the FBI is behind many domestic "terrorist" attacks. It wouldn't surprise me if this "withdrawal" included some some fabricated covert strategy to achieve some of the empire's future goals currently unknown to the public. After all, over history the US has backed many "terrorist" (Moderate Rebels) groups in the Middle East to do their bidding.

South Korea has been a puppet state of the US since the Korean War (Police Action) hostilities ended. Anywhere where Anglo-American capital is injected for "investment" and the US has a military base, the US usually owns the major political parties in that country - just look at Australia. So if South Korea is starting to show signs of independence, I can see the Anglo-American empire and their propaganda media soon complaining about a recalcitrant and "socialist" South Korea. And yes, Moon Jae-in is starting to look like the "dictators" Assad and Maduro and may soon have to go; and then the original imperial puppet (2008 to 2013) and Japanese overlord and convicted felon Lee Myung-bak can be returned to power in South Korea. Given the considerable western investment in South Korea, I doubt it will be the usual sanctions; but I'm sure the Anglo-American plutocrats will think of something. Maybe it will soon be time for another CIA Latin American style of plane crash or a Dr. Udo Ulfkotte heart attack? I’d hate to see Moon Jae-in wind up like Jaime Roldos Aguilera (Ecuador) and I hope Moon's life insurance is paid up.

@PtolemyXVII Just as long as he is not too enthusiastic about China up to the point of where he retires, he should be just fine. If he gets too obstreperous to the Anglo-American plutocrats and forcefully backs China in the interim, I don't like his chances.
