  1. Shirvan Neftchi, sadly you appear to have a somewhat idealized understanding of Australian political history. Australia was and still is part of the British Commonwealth (Empire). Australia’s head of state is Queen Elizabeth II and Britain has a sycophant representative in Australia which is the Governor General. Currently the sycophant is Peter Cosgrove. The reason Australia fought for Britain’s historical interest is not only because of protection of trade routes but because Australia is a colony of Britain. Might I give an example to prove this point. During WW2, many Australian troops were removed from north of Australia to fight for Britain’s interests, leaving Australia more vulnerable to attack by Japan’s forces. What independent nation would intentionally increase the risk to their “National” security? Australia almost had some form of independence at one time. The Whitlam Government was elected in 1972 and the government started acting as if it were an independent nation. It looked to buy crude outside the Middle East; it queried and investigated the US’s actions at Pine Gap, and the one that put the cat amongst the pigeons is when Gough Whitlam removed Australian Troops from Vietnam.  These independent acts of defiance of the Anglo-American Empire sent Washington and London into a spin. The interested parties asked the CIA, MI6 and the Indonesian butcher Marshall Greene to solve the problem of a recalcitrant puppet state. After some engineered political destabilization, the CIA recruited the Governor General at that time (John Kerr) to sack the Whitlam government and return control to the Empire. If you wish to read about this deception and subversion, John Pilger covers this episode of Australian political history with credible and referenced journalism.    There was another token attempt at giving Australia independence when in 1999, a referendum was held. The Prime Minister of the time John Howard, an obsequious supporter of the Empire, worded the referendum as giving only one model for the Republic instead of asking if the Australian people actually wanted a republic. Because of a narrow Republican option, the people had to reject the Republic because many could not accept the specific Republican model given. It’s like saying you can use this rusty unroadworthy 1970s Dodge or you don’t drive a car. What appears to have happened is the president of the Republican Movement and the “Yes” case appeared to be colluding with the John Howard in structuring the argument that gave the desired result. Even Queen Elizabeth II queried the wording of the argument even though her interests were being covered in the deception. Just in case you were wondering, the president of the Republican Movement was none other than the current Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, affectionately known as the “Member for Goldman Sachs”. Most Australians are still wondering about his elevation to the Member for Wentworth just a few years after this deception. Australia is still a colonial outpost of Britain; no Australian citizen will be head of state, and heads of government are just puppet roles in a now British-American vassal state. The Whitlam era was the last brief rendezvous with true independence and since then all puppet governments have followed the Anglo-American Imperial foreign policies. Remember, Howard was just following orders when he signed Australia up to the Coalition of the Willing; after all Bush gave him little alternative when he said on behalf of the Oligarchs, “You are either with us or against us”. So sadly you are WRONG when you said Australia gained its independence in 1901. I hope your published falsehood is due to intentional ignorance and filling in time to give a rambling content to your website and not for some more insidious motivation.
