  1. Mechanical failures due to cold temperatures could happen but the electronics should be okay thinking of low temperatures of superconductors at extremely low temperatures. How long do transistors remain functional? It is said impurities would cause therm to fail. I have an OC45 and AF115 and AF117 transistor which still test o.k. although not in any working circuit but I bought these in the 1970's when I started dabbling with transistors after using valves. A transistor radio from the '70's I was given still works, 3 x AF117, 2 x OC81 and one OC81D. G4GHB.
