At first I wondered why it could be dangerous even when switched off, then when you mentioned the other two masts nearby I knew what the problem would be. We did a special event radio demonstration maybe 15 years ago at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester and located in the old railway station with a long wire outside. Graham had brought an countrpoise earth and tuner and connected it up while I was transmitting on my h/b 5 Watt output radio. He jumped back as he had received a shock. That's only 5 Watts. G4GHB.

I remember my Dad telling me about this as we drove on the road he pointed up in the hillside saying the pub was somewhere up there. They are not forgotten. A fitting tribute to them by visiting the grave.

Some people look for problems that aren't there.

I modified a Pye Bantam to work on 70.26 MHz. At home I heard a b.c. station, Poland as it turned out, conditions were good, so loaded my 3 el h/b Yagi into my Land Rover and up to what c.b.'ers called the Budgie Perch. Worked into Cheshire, Lancashire, east coast and topped it with a guy near Glasgow in the hills, 59 each way, about 180-200 miles. Not bad for my half Watt a.m. Nobody on 70.26 a.m. these days and years since I had a QSO. Just acquired an AnyTone AT-779 so need to look on the internet to find how to use it. That was never a problem with Pye stuff! G4GHB

It's better than our own homeless get.

Hotels for illegal migrants but pods for our own people.

I'd forgotten about this one.

Interesting video, thanks. Somebody living near Droitwich said his hi-fi was picking up the radio station. I suggested it could be his speaker wires acting as an aerial and he could try different lengths. He looked at me as though I was stupid. I then suggested he put 1,000 picofarad capacitors across the speaker leads at the speaker and amplifier. I never knew if he did. It could also be the components inside rectifying the signal like a crystal set and amplifying it G4GHB.

Have you done one on the Gorse Hall murder? Another unsolved murder.

I used a converted Pye Bantam which I had to repair first for quite a few years going out walking in the hills and a pre-arranged time to contact two stations in the Stockport area over 30 years ago using a quarter wave telescopic whip. Interesting as I walked around hearing signal levels change. A.m. is dead now and I've had about two contacts from here since so it's just sitting here doing nothing. My furthest was into Scotland from a local hilltop after hearing a broadcast station close to 70.26MHz at home on the whip, probably Polish so conditions were good, I took a a h/b 3 element beam and he was in the hills doing the same. Perfect 5.9. each way at around 200 miles, not bad for my half Watt out. I went on Werneth Low a few times and got the two stations in Stockport on my whip. Not much activity in those days and xtalled only on 70.26 MHz. I'm hoping to put 4m and 6m ssb/cw on my h/b rig if I can, to which I'm just adding 60m. G4GHB.

If you couldn't put up outside aerials it has to be better than nothing. There's that magical 17 foot of coax again which C.B.'ers go to great lengths (pun) to trim to achieve the best SWR. Adjust the coax not the aerial! One video with a comment where a guy cut his coax and soldered and unsoldered his PL259 in one inch lengths to obtain the lowest SWR. Imagine doing this for a 160m band aerial. Anyone remember the Joystick? I bought a Joystick Junior, the h.f. tuner and the 160m tuner new, all for £2.50 in 1976. I think they wanted to get rid of it. It was really a lump of inductance which you put on the end of a long wire. I got it for the π tuners. G4GHB.

I've had two dealings with Ofcom. First was Heritage Radio Islamic Koranic readings showing open hatred towards unbelievers. The true Koran. I complained to Ofcom and the readings were stopped for 6 weeks then came back with a toned down version. Well done Ofcom but to me it should have been permanently shut down. Second was interference to my radio when Ofcom investigated and after 3 hours said it was possibly corrosion on the telephone wire causing it to become unbalanced and radiating noise. B.T. didn't want to know and hadn't a clue when I said it was their faulty line. They said they would charge me to take it down. I pay for removal of their faulty line! Again well done Ofcom.

I know one of these Radio Aquarius operators, now a licenced amateur. He told me about a few of these raids and locations they used. G4GHB.

Was there one inventor of radio? Many people did various bits which were all useful in radio. Experimenters included Professor Branley with his coherer, Professors Onesti, Lodge, Rutherford and Popov in Russia. Admiral Jackson and Marconi put designs forward to the British Navy. The earliest British experimenter is said to be David Edward Hughes in 1879 who walked around London streets with a telephone receiver at his ear receiving signals from apparatus in his London home.

I'd be more concerned about the actual mobile phone near my eyes and face. i read about localised heating and tumours occurring in breast tissue and testicles because of where people put the phones and a possible link to phones. That was in the New Scientist magazine years ago. If I owned one it would stay at home and I'd make brief calls only on it. Why would I want somebody phoning me when I'm in the pub anyway? I had Pye Pocketphones on 433 MHz one time, never worked anybody, but I didn't like the idea of the transmitter so close to my face even at only 100 milliWatts out. G4GHB.

Our maths teacher was like this in the late 60's to early 70's. If we didn't understand then she couldn't understand why we didn't. Perhaps if she tried to explain it better it might have worked. She was an ogre and we didn't feel we could ask her to explain it again. It was years later when I did some Open University I understood how to properly solve algebra problems because it was explained properly. Bill, northern England.

Nice castle! It's a pity they did away with 934 MHz C.B. G4GHB.

Fascinating how Royal families were related and wanting to be king in other lands.

I had two and modified them with a microphone and earpiece that could be fitted into a motorbike helmet for communication between two motorbikes. The only thing I hear now is a baby alarm which must be very close. I just hear what might be Pakistani talking and television.

End of an era. It's certainly impressive. Can I borrow the site for a while after it closes down?. I could do great things with my amateur radio with these aerials, thinking of our 220/630/160/80 metre amateur bands. I wonder if our frequency allocations could be extended as we don't have very much space on the first two. G4GHB.

It doesn't need to be a high powered transmitter as I used to use 100 Watts and came through my neighbours crappy t.v. and hi-fi equipment. New QTH, QRP 5 Watts by choice. Still get out well, especially Morse Code. 33 years and no-one has asked what the outdoor wires are. I had a Grundig mw/lw/fm radio and after inserting six 1,000 pF capacitors inside I could then put it 2 feet from my long wire when only then I heard breakthrough. A pity manufacturers couldn't do the same. I cured one t.v. with a braid breaker, another partially cured with a ferrite ring, when the t.v. engineer came he didn't have a clue what it was. Ha! Call themselves professional t.v. engineers! G4GHB.

I remember it knocking out communication on h.f. Now I suffer from broadband interference 160, 80, was 40m but now not too bad, 30, and 20m with S8 noise level. 60m has been okay. B.T. said they would charge me to take down my phone line which is the cause of it according to Ofcom who investigated. I would have to pay for their faulty line removal! I'm not with B.T. The Minister for Telecommunication and Broadband secretary had no idea with saying I need to contact my internet provider if I'm having trouble with radio broadcasts over the internet. You contact secretaries who have no idea about anything and never an engineer. It's very much killed my hobby. G4GHB

Okay, I just watched it, thanks. G4GHB.
