  3. That situation was long in the making. The Federal Reserve Act created by Wilson set things up for 1929, New Deal economics sent the US from being the world's greatest lender to borrower in 15 years, and endless imbecility until Reagan did most of the damage. It is just popular among Democrats, smarting over the disaster of Carter, to blame Reagan. Reagan wasn't perfect, not by a long shot, but is just a popular target for the Malaise Era that started in the 1970's. Oh well, shit happens. Politics is a mess I have been asked to be a part of, local politics in Australia, and no way would I.
