  1. I've fully disassembled my 1911 a couple times in the last 50 years to replace the firing pin and recoil springs. usally a field strip and good cleaning is all that is needed. I've only had to take my fathers ww2 issued weapon into the gunsmith once to fix a loose front sight, thoroughly reliable pistol.
