  1. Don't worry about your ' haters' as other commenters have mentioned these areas exist the world over. It's particularly interesting on a few levels. Historically, culturally, emotionally, & architecturally. Also there is a certain bleak yet warm feel about the place you visited. Modern buildings often lack a sort of human feel. So please don't be bothered about your ' haters' they simply lack the confidence to say Russia is a nice place, even though it's had it's problems in the past.
