  1. So my bottom line is this: I'm not terribly fussed over humans going extinct, and I'm not sure why anyone should be fussed about it, to be honest. And I'd say that if we can't get our collective act together enough to avoid bringing about our own extinction, perhaps it's on the good side of a universal scale of good and bad that we go extinct before we become an interstellar species.

  2. Climate has been made into a political landmine. As Paul Slovic with Decision Research in conjunction with Yale, Cornell, and Ohio State have found in their paper "Motivated numeracy and enlightened self-government", even the well-educated will read a basic graph improperly if it's a politically-charged topic. You're not going to get through to anyone on a politically-charged topic for that reason, because they aren't basing their stance on reason and they reject reason. The stronger the politics of a person, the stronger their motivation to reason unsoundly. Not that I think it's per se impossible to reach such people, but I'm not sure there's any sure-fire way at this time to do so.
