According to the research out there, critical thinking is either there or it isn't. There's very little evidence that generalized critical thinking can be taught. It may be that we don't yet have the methods. A lot of people I speak with who are good critical thinkers, and take this with a grain of salt--anecdotal evidence being what it is, typically have childhood trauma that made them suddenly question everything we've ever known. That lack of stability, I think, may be the genesis of a talent for generalized critical thinking.
