It's not the crosswalk design or speed. It's the fact that crosswalks aren't being used. Start ticketing jaywalkers. You'll see a real quick drop in fatalities.

@jsimmons7023 That perhaps may be some of the issue, but it is not the primary cause from my experience. Turning blindly left from behind an SUV into oncoming traffic while on a bike on a rainy night would be an example of what's causing most deaths on 82nd. It's worth noting in rebuttal ORS 814.040. Pedestrians do not always have right of way at every marked or unmarked intersection.

@jsimmons7023 It depends on the circumstance. If a pedestrian steps out into the middle of traffic without waiting for it to be reasonably clear, then their being hit is on themselves for failing to yield right of way to vehicles per 814.040. The two times that I almost hit a person, that was the case, and it was only because I do pay very close attention that they weren't grease stains.

@jsimmons7023 You're putting this on the drivers when I'm confident that it's on the druggies that are all over 82nd like roaches throwing caution to the wind when crossing. I'm sure there are some that are the drivers' faults, but that isn't what makes 82nd such a deadly stretch.
